Tri Cities and Beyond: Virginia Creeper Trail

Virginia Creeper Trail

Virgincreeper trailia Creeper trail is about 45 minutes from Johnson City TN and well worth the short trip! Whether you own your own bike, or want to rent one in town, not a problem.  There are several bike/shuttle services that take you to the top/beginning of the trail to start your adventure. The shuttle to the top takes about 30 minutes. The shuttles are comfortable and well ventilated, which is a bonus on those curvy roads up.  The top is called White Top.  Once we reach the top, you are on your own for the 17 mile bike ride down the mountain.  It is a great well maintained trail with wonderful views and a fairly level trail.  There are stop signs, intersections, cafes, bike repair spots through out the trail. An out train station that was shut down in 1977 has been reopened with all the original items in tack.  That was really interesting.  They had the old red snow boots for girls and black golashes for boys.  That really took me back.  What a great day we had.  It took us about an hour and 40 minutes to get to the bottom.  I'm ready to do it again next week-end!  It was a perfect day!!!

Well at least the bike trail is down hill 17 miles as opposed to an uphill climb. Hope you get to enjoy it again.

That's a catchy-creepy title for Halloween week. Glad the weather's still nice enough to ride.  Enjoy!

Thanks Michael- I like the link back to your fall localism post.  very clever.

Hi Ed, As much as I wanted it to be a downhill ride, there was still lots of uphill climbs (surprisingly) and many straight aways.  Boy do I feel it today..lol, not as young as I think I am.

Michael, I was thinking that same thing...Timing is everything!

Thank you Sybil

Wow- what a great ride - love to see a video of it before all of the leaves are gone.   With that name, are the trees covered with Virginia Creeepers, and are they bright red?

Cindy: A seventeen mile bike ride in the fall sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday with friends and family. Nice blog post.
