Tri Cities and Beyond: Interview with a Science Hill Band Student

Interview with a Science Hill Band Student

Science Hill High School in Johnson City, Tennessee has a fabulous band program. Science Hill band has been invited to march in the IKEA Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.  It will be held at 9am in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and televised on ABC.

I have Erica here, an 11th grade Mellophone player.

"Hi Erica, tell me your favorite part about being in band"

" I really like competitions, it's great to travel and be with friends at the same time."

" How long have you been in band?"

"This is my 6th year, 3 in Middle school and 3 years here at Science Hill"

"Tell us about the Mellophone?"

" It's a marching French Horn.  It's like a giant trumpet.  During concert band I play the French Horn"

"Do you like marching band or concert band better?"

" Marching!  I love being outdoors during school practicing.  The only probelm is, everyone else leaves at 2:40 and the band ends up working until 5 or 6 at night during band season. But it's fun playing at the football games and being in all the parades we are invited to. "

"What are some of the other parades you have been in?"

" All the Christmas Parades, Homecoming parades and The Rose Bowl Parade in 2009"

" Good for you Erica, thanks for sharing with us, anything you would like to add?"

"Do I get credit for this?"     She really said that!
