Tri Cities and Beyond: February 2011

Susan G Komen Foundation

I have been involved with this charity for 5 years now.  It is a foundation that raises money for Breast cancer Research.  It is much more than that.  It is a warm, inviting, nurturing stopping ground for many women, men, sisters, mothers, daughters, aunts, cousins, friends, wives, husbands...etc Every 69 seconds a woman dies of breast cancer.  Join me in the fight against breast cancer.

Every year we put a team together and walk in the 3day for a cure walk.  We have visited 4 cities so far and will be walking in Cleveland this July.  We walk 20 miles a day for 3 days.  At night we sleep in pink tents, have cafeteria style outdoor dining and entertainment.  There is always a line to the medic tent for feet to be bandaged!

The top picture was taken at the Michigan walk and the picture to the left was taken at the Chicago walk.

Sometimes it rains!

and sometimes it's just plain HOT!

But we continue on and try to make a difference.  It is an experience like no other.

We also fund raise through out the year.  I have had jewlery making parties for teen-agers, painting parties for adults, gift wrapping and the holidays, and my favorite event takes place in June where we get a large black bus to travel us around from restaruant to restaurant for a progressive dinner.  of course everyone wears pink and we have a blast.  I have raised over $10,000.00 in a year for this event.

My goal is to walk in all 15 cities that host this event.  I'm hoping that in a couple years my (now 16) daughter will want to join with me.
