Tri Cities and Beyond: November 2010

I love a Parade!

Thanksgiving is over and and we're all gearing up for the December holidays!  However, even though my pictures are still stuck on a back card reader (had to send it out to the professionals to retrieve my 400 photos!) I have found some pictures worth posting from the IKEA Thanksgiving Day parade in Philidelphia.  The Science Hill Marching Band from Johnson City, Tennessee marched in this parade and made Johnson City proud.

I love this picture.  I caught them off guard, getting ready to start.  The smile tells it all.  The beauty of these events is giving 250 kids the opportunity to venture outside their hometown and experience the culture of another area.  Some of these kids would never be able to have these experiences.    The band program at Science Hill is top notch and run by Dr. Carson Vermillion.  They not only get invitations to some of the top events around the country, but they participate in competitive events year round.  This year they were Grand Champions in a Chattanooga event.  They are quite impressive.

The kids have fun and learn lifelong lessons along the way.  Great job Science Hill Marching Band!
